Your freedom hair can be washed almost exactly as you would your growing hair. We recommend you use good quality shampoo and conditioner and try to limit washing to approximately once a week. It may be that your fringe and the hair touching your skin may need to be washed more often, due to contact with the oils of your skin. Using overnight conditioning treatments are also not recommended as they can sometimes effect the cap.
The inside of your cap must be cleaned after every wear. This is to make sure any oils are removed. Our medical grade silicone is extremely bacteria resistant and therefore cannot harbour odour and irritants. This resistance can be compromised however, if the cap is not thoroughly cleaned daily, as a layer of oil may build up, which can then become a breeding ground for bacteria. To clean the cap, a dishwashing detergent free from oils and added fragrances is recommended. A small hand held loofa is helpful to buff the dishwashing liquid into the cap. Once you believe the cap is thoroughly cleaned, rinse with water and towel dry.
Even with thorough daily cleaning a very small amount of oil may build up over several months. To completely remove this, you can form a paste of baking soda and water, paint onto the inside of the cap, leave to dry and then rinse. This will remove all oils from the cap, but can be time consuming, so is only necessary once every couple of months.
