quick reference hair donation criteria
For hair to be usable in prosthetic wig manufacturing, it must meet the following criteria (for more detailed descriptions, click the link above):
➢The minimum donation length is 35.5 cm/14” below the hair tie to just above the wispiest ends. We also require at least 2.5cm/1” of hair above the hair tie. (as pictured) We are very strict about our length criteria, so if you are in doubt, we would advise waiting a little longer before cutting if possible.
➢The hair needs to be measured in somewhat of its natural state i.e. do not fully brush out; heat straighten or stretch curls/waves when measuring
➢No chemical processing or perming (including hair colour, semi, demi, henna and permanent; chemical straightening or curling and other chemical treatments)
➢All colours and textures are welcome, including 100% and partially grey hair
➢Donated ponytails must have been secured in a strong hair tie before being cut. We cannot use hair collected from the floor etc
We do not accept gifts of hair. If you do not wish to be paid for your hair, we can donate your ponytail's value to a charity of your choice, or to our own 'freedom fund' that helps NZ clients access our wigs.
